"Shedryvky" are ritual songs performed on a generous evening, the evening on the eve of the new year. They usually began with the words of greeting: "Generous evening, good evening." In the distant past, this type of song differed from other holiday songs, today it differs in that it is sung in Ukraine and in Ukrainian-speaking villages of the region. At the time when we now celebrate Christmas, once upon a time, even before Christianity, in Ukraine there was a holiday of the winter solstice. It was the time of divination for the coming year; and that is why we still have a whole series of pre-Christian elements in Christmas customs, whose purpose was to call for a good harvest in the following year, wealth and prosperity in the house of the master, lucky catches for the hunter, a wedding for a girl and a happy journey for a young man - a prince's wife or the prince himself. All the natural forces of nature are appeased and called upon not to harm people and livestock.

И об этом свидетельствует такая колядка, сохранившая еще дохристианские символы: "На Древе светлом, две птички радочку советуют, как нам это мир основать, ныряют на дно, вытащат оттуда камень и основают таким образом Мир". И потому многие ученые поддерживают эту точку зрения, что пели гимны, прославляющие рождение Нового Солнца, рождение Нового Года. Кроме того, в дохристианские времена такие события нуждались в определенном жертвоприношении. В древние времена, когда отошли от человеческих жертвоприношений, необходимо было принести в жертву то, что было ценным в господе. А ценным по тем временам был рогатый скот. И таким образом мы и переходим к обряду "вождения козы". То есть приносили в жертву скот, который затем заменился на выпекание печенья в виде рождественского скота.

Let's note that carols are almost never baked, and Christmas cakes are never baked during the day - they celebrate the Feast of Christmas Eve, the Moon and the Stars. This is a holiday of faith in the Light, so that people live better, so that the earth gives birth better than last year, so that the future children and grandchildren of the Family live more cheerfully.
