Почему колядники переодеваются в зверей, иностранцев и потусторонних существ По представлению древних людей, загробный мир – как бы перевернутый этот мир. И соответственно, представители того мира такие же, как и мы, но немного другие. И соответственно поэтому колядники переодевались по категориям - "чужой", потусторонний. Это мог быть не человек, а животное, так в группах колядников появились звериные образы. Это – могли быть “чужие” по категории – инородный, так у нас появляется, например, “немец”. Это могут быть не люди, а вообще – демонические существа, поэтому колядники обматывали руки соломой, становились на ходуле или наоборот приседали, говорили очень глубокими, низкими голосами, или – наоборот, очень писклявыми.
Do not confuse carols (folk songs) with carols (songs of religious (church) content) - dedicated to one of the most important Christian holidays - Christmas. Carols appeared, in which archaic motifs and images were intertwined with biblical ones (birth, life, torment, death and resurrection of Christ). A special place is occupied by church carols of authorial, book origin (Silent Night, Holy Night; New joy has become; and others). According to H. Luzhnytskyi, "with carols, the history of Ukrainian theater enters the phase of the so-called magic of the word. The spirit of primitive man's imagination was mythical and magical, and carols in their genesis are primitive magical formulas, where the conjurer is an actor, because during spell, he plays the role of the future self, or higher power."
"Carols" were baked on Vasiliev's Eve, addressed to the owners of the house, as well as separately to the housewife and her daughter, or the father of the family and his son, etc. The most ancient, pagan carol songs are connected with the theme of the magical growth of nature and living things, the later ones also absorbed religious themes:
