Свет, который ежегодно дарит людям Солнце Коляды, - это питающая, всепобеждающая мощь Творца, зовущая с древнейших времен и по сей час на Святый ужин, где двери для всех открыты, где столы для всех накрыты". (В.Войтович, Сокол- Род, 1997) Для провозглашения Бога-Творца народ создал огромное количество торжественных гимнов-песен о сотворении мира, почитании Солнца, Луны, Богини Дани и их потомков-людей - колядок и щедровок. Заметим, что колядки почти никогда, а щедривки никогда не пекут днем – ими величают Праздник Щедрого вечера, Луны и Звезды. Это праздник веры в Свет, чтобы люди жили лучше, чтобы земля лучше родила, чем в прошлом году, чтобы будущие дети и внуки Рода жили веселее.
"Shedryvky" are ritual songs performed on a generous evening, the evening on the eve of the new year. They usually began with the words of greeting: "Generous evening, good evening." In the distant past, this type of song differed from other holiday songs, today it differs in that it is sung in Ukraine and in Ukrainian-speaking villages of the region. At the time when we now celebrate Christmas, once upon a time, even before Christianity, in Ukraine there was a holiday of the winter solstice. It was the time of divination for the coming year; and that is why we still have a whole series of pre-Christian elements in Christmas customs, whose purpose was to call for a good harvest in the following year, wealth and prosperity in the house of the master, lucky catches for the hunter, a wedding for a girl and a happy journey for a young man - a prince's wife or the prince himself. All the natural forces of nature are appeased and called upon not to harm people and livestock.
They sing these songs, moving in a carol band from house to house and standing under the window or near the door. After singing and congratulations after it (as a rule, in verse form - the so-called "pokolyad") carolers receive some kind of reward (also a remnant of ancient magical ritual actions). Songs about Malanka and the New Year's show-game "Goat" are separate categories of donations. In some places in Western Ukraine, the so-called rindzivki, performed at the time of the spring equinox, have also survived.
