Через неделю после Коляды 31 декабря (13 января) отмечали Щедрый вечер (день христианской святой преподобной Мелании). Этот день называли Меланки. По традиции празднование сопровождалось обходом домов с пожеланием людям счастья, здоровья и благополучия в Новом Году. Щедровали тоже театрализованными группами: "Меланка" и "Василий" и "Ряженые". Если сравнить колядки и щедривки ("Щедрик, щедрик, щедривочка, прилетела ласточочка"), то в щедривках вспоминают ласточок, весну, сеяние ржи. Это свидетельствует о том, что древние славяне отмечали начало Нового Года весной.

And this is evidenced by such a carol, which has preserved pre-Christian symbols: "On the Light Tree, two little birds advise us how to establish this world, they dive to the bottom, pull out a stone from there and thus establish the World." And that is why many scholars support this point of view, that they sang hymns that glorify the birth of the New Sun, the birth of the New Year.

Christmas carols always begin with cosmogonic carols about the creation of the World, and then praise all family members with personal wishes for each. It has recently been established that songs have their own energy. Interestingly, the oldest Ukrainian songs have great energy. And the most interesting thing is that the greatest energy is precisely in carols and Christmas gifts. It is recorded in Roman chronicles that this is such an ancient rite of the Etruscans that only the most gifted Magi comprehend its original essence. And this means that the age of these songs is at least 5000-7000 years. It is interesting that the bounties were preserved only in Ukraine. The ancient customs and rites of our people are beginning to return from oblivion and silence. Most people still know them very poorly. But there is no present without the past.
