The Christmas tree was not acceptable for Ukraine for quite a long time. Since totemic times, it has been believed that certain animals or plants, trees have a genetic connection with the genus. That is why they worshiped animals and trees. And the Christmas tree and the pine tree, as evergreen trees, symbolized immortality, and that is why it is customary in our country to plant a pine tree on the grave, because it seems to have a connection with the afterlife on the one hand, and on the other - resurrection - a symbol of immortality, a symbol of eternal life. "Podnyak", as a rule, was a fruit tree. And the Scandinavian peoples had oak.

Do not confuse carols (folk songs) with carols (songs of religious (church) content) - dedicated to one of the most important Christian holidays - Christmas. Carols appeared, in which archaic motifs and images were intertwined with biblical ones (birth, life, torment, death and resurrection of Christ). A special place is occupied by church carols of authorial, book origin (Silent Night, Holy Night; New joy has become; and others). According to H. Luzhnytskyi, "with carols, the history of Ukrainian theater enters the phase of the so-called magic of the word. Когда в домах появилась елка Издавна у многих народов мира происходило поклонение деревьям. Особенно у южных славян обязательно Рождество сопровождалось "подняком" - полено, у которого хозяин торжественно, со всеми жертвоприношениями - просил прощения, что должен был срубить это дерево, осыпал зерном этот пенек, обмазывал тестом, и потом приносил в дом, где торжественно его сжигали. Эти моменты и вероятно начали использование позже елки. Так постепенно мы и выходим на сегодняшний ритуал – использование елки.
