They sing these songs, moving in a carol band from house to house and standing under the window or near the door. After singing and congratulations after it (as a rule, in verse form - the so-called "pokolyad") carolers receive some kind of reward (also a remnant of ancient magical ritual actions). Songs about Malanka and the New Year's show-game "Goat" are separate categories of donations. In some places in Western Ukraine, the so-called rindzivki, performed at the time of the spring equinox, have also survived.

Обо всем этом поется в колядках, известных далеко еще до начала христианских времен на Украине это проявляется и в обычных обрядах, как вот: двенадцать поленьев, двенадцать святочерних блюд, призывы на ужин мороза, волка, черной бури и злых ветров, дедушек на углу, сено на столе. Все эти движения, действия и слова, на первый взгляд не имеющие никакого значения в жизни человека, веют на сердце каждого из нас волшебством родной стихии и являются для души живущим бальзамом, наполняющим его могучей силой.

Let's note that carols are almost never baked, and Christmas cakes are never baked during the day - they celebrate the Feast of Christmas Eve, the Moon and the Stars. This is a holiday of faith in the Light, so that people live better, so that the earth gives birth better than last year, so that the future children and grandchildren of the Family live more cheerfully.
